Thursday, December 14, 2006 Nailbat Begins #11 Yet again I find myself in a situation where I chose to be less violent than originally intended. Originally I intended for Mors to hit Penelope's assailant several times before she stepped in, to signify the amount of rage he was taking out. Instead I went with the raised bat intended to suggest a sudden, very violent death, about to be inflicted. I used varying degrees of background shading in the last three panels to create part of the mood. In the 3rd from last panel the bat is raised, poised to strike on a dark background with heavy strokes. The strokes are bold, and intentionally meant to look like a frustrated scribble to describe the anger Mors is releasing. When Penelope's paws reach up and grab the bat you see that not only is the background lighter but around her paws it's almost totally white, as if the darkness is retreating from her. It's apropriate that this page falls alongside the main antibunny story, in which you're seeing more of Penelope's character. At the same time she tends to steal the scene. She'll be in the next page too, but then should be absent from the rest of the Nailbat story. She's not a major character here but makes a good victim character. On one final note I'd like to point out the use of drop shadows on the word baloons, to make them stand out a little more and give depth to the comic. Let me know what you think. If readers like them I'll keep using them. Return to ARCHIVE | |||||

AntiBunny is hosted on Keenspace, a free webhosting and site automation service for webcomics. They're pretty keen, if I do say so myself.
