Nailbat Begins #46
Or as I like to call it, the little page that could. I really wasn't sure about the art on this one throught he whole process. Two panels were erased and redrawn before I was satisfied with the pencils alone. Inking was a whole other matter, because I felt the need to freehand in some extra details like Malphas in the rearview mirror on the bottom left panel. I also rewrote the script. Originally I just had Nailbat pass through the car straight to the back seat but I revised to give him a bit of payback for the sucker punch Runo got in earlier. I do like Runo but it seems its his destiny to be punched in the face. Additionally Knell got a line where originally I'd just planned for her to turn her head away. That slight verbal objection might not mean much but it was a step forward from previous, silent submission. But the center panel was the biggest change. Originally Nailbat was just going to strike a standing, angelic pose, in fact you can see that pose at a distance in the next panel. But I decided to go for the more dynamic pose to really show him off as not must being more powerful but being like a caged beast let loose, who doesn't even know his own strength.

Ultimately I'm quite happy with the outcome and getting to show off my own black suit hero, whom for now we'll just call Dark Nailbat. Of course his black suit doesn't turn him into a murderous psycho, thanks to Darkness keeping all that power in check. This is just a temporary change though. The two can't stay fused for very long, since their power is far greater than the sum of the two. They'd eventually go out of control, so this is a last ditch effort.

I struggled very hard to pick just the right one liner for the last panel, but I think "where is your money now was the best one, as Nailbat is implying that all the money Malphas has doesn't do him a bit of good in this situation, and he's far less than the godlike individual he's built himself up to be.
