Thursday, September 6, 2007 Nailbat Begins #48 I think I got a little misty eyed writing this one. I've really come to like Dee since he first appeared way back in AntiBunny chapter 2 as little more than a side character. Now he's stuck in a situation where his laws conflict with his own sense of right and wrong, and he can't do a thing about it. Poor Dee. To be honest this strip wasn't part of the originals and was drawn later and inserted (so now Nailbat will end on #50 instead of the previously announced #49) I was hoping to hit fifty strips when I started anyway. This may not have been part of the original plan but now that I look at it I can't see the ending working without this page. Even though now it implies that Dee confronted Shishi and was caught by his superiors off panel, I assure you that material will be covered in the future. In fact I'm planning for Dee to get his own side story which will feature his origin as well as Shishi's and their confrontation. Art wise this strip was a pretty intense endevour. I went outside and just looked up at the sky to get good refferences for clouds, so I hope the last panel looks good. I used quick whispy strokes of the pen to get them to look a bit less solid. Editing was no walk in the park either. Most of my strips only take four layers, this one took nine due to all the color and differing text effects (such as Darkness's speech fadiing into Dee's). If you're wondering about the crimson caped Reaper, she's what I call an enforcer class reaper. They keep other reapers in line. She isn't a major character but I named her Luin, and her soul release, Balore. Origianlly she was planned to appear in just gray, but I thought she needed to look a bit more commanding and authoritative so I colored her cloak in crimson, and I think it really changes the air about her, to being that of someone in charge. Two more strips until the end (of the beginning anyway). Stick around. Return to ARCHIVE | |||||
