Thursday, October 18, 2007 Sketchbook Filler: Michealus Malphas concept art This is a little piece of concept art I did to help me get down Malphas's appearance, as well as give the readers a good idea as to what he looks like, since so far he's always had close ups and few full body shots. I'd like to point out a few specific details. He of course always wears a black suit, though in this picture his jacket has changed. In the comic his long coat is usually worn over the shoulders like a cape, whereas in this picture he's swapped it out for a more lean looking buttoned coat, that gives him a more sleek and athletic appearance. He also wears a bolo tie as opposed to the normal necktie worn by most of the sharks. Of course the most destinctive features of Malphas is his flowing head full of 80's hair, and his blank, demon posessed looking eyes. It's the eyes that really contribute to his presence, and witha villain creating a sort of presence, be it imposing, comedic, or what have you, is the most important part of a good villain design.
